Position: Farm Team Member

Position: Farm Team Member

Position Available: Mid-March 2025

Application Deadline: February 19th, 2025

Our Farm

Red Truck Farm is a small scale, certified organic mixed vegetable farm located in Ridgefield, Washington (15 miles North of Portland, OR). We grow a mix of salad greens and other vegetables on 1.5 acres and sell our produce to local restaurants, grocers, and through an honor system stand at the farm. We have been in operation since 2008 and now grow year-round for our community. At our farm we work as a collaborative team, do a lot of cross training, and identify focus areas for team members based on what will be the most efficient for the system; taking into account opportunities for growth and learning as well as personal enjoyment. We are a small team so most of us do most of the tasks required to keep the farm running each week. At Red Truck Farm we seek to respect each other’s full humanity, have some fun, and change the world just a little bit while producing incredible produce for our community.

We are looking for a person or people to join our team starting mid-March 2025 through the end of November. We are hoping to find a full time team member, but will absolutely consider part-time applicants as well. This is a seasonal position.

Job Requirements

We are looking for people who have the following characteristics, experience and abilities:

  • A positive attitude, love for food production and physically challenging outdoor work.

  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as comfort and confidence working independently.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience with farming, gardening, landscaping, or other outdoor physical work. At least one season on a production vegetable farm strongly preferred.

  • Ability to interface with customers politely and respectfully at the farm or on delivery routes.

  • Willingness to join a collaborative and team-based work environment.

  • Ability to commit to a full season on the farm.

Job Duties or Core responsibilities of Farm Team Members

  • Work as a team to accomplish harvest, wash/pack, greenhouse work, field seeding and transplanting, crop maintenance, weed management, irrigation, farm stand stocking and delivery.

  • Work in outside conditions, year-round in all types of weather, doing physically demanding work such as bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.

  • Follow all food safety plan procedures.

  • Complete all required record keeping.

  • Maintain an organized, safe and clean/tidy work environment.

  • Follow direction, systems and proper procedures and seek out guidance when unsure of task or next steps.

  • Work quickly, effectively and safely to accomplish the tasks at hand

Schedule

We generally work M-F with 8 hour days. Depending on the time of year and temperatures we adjust our start time between 6am and 9am. For part-time team members we seek to find a shift schedule that meets both personal and farm needs. Monday, Tuesday and Friday are heavy harvest, wash and pack days. Wednesday and Thursday are focused more on seeding, planting and field maintenance. Everyone should plan to work our Monday/Tuesday shifts regardless of full or part time hours.

Compensation

  • The Farm Team Member is an hourly, seasonal full time position (part time options will be considered as needed). Starting wage is $16-$18/hour depending on experience.

  • All employees are encouraged to take home produce from the farm on a regular basis.

  • Workers comp, paid sick leave per Washington State law, and eligibility for Washington’s paid family medical leave.

  • On-farm yurt housing potentially available with further discussion.

How to Apply

To apply to join our team please send your resume and cover letter to Amber Baker at redtruckfarm@gmail.com. Please indicate your interest in a full or part-time position and any scheduling or availability constraints you may have.
